Yet Another Way to Introduce Myself (Blog Edition)

It's really common to say "Hi!" on self-introductions and it gets generic every time you see it. Same thing with "My name is..." and as much as I want to be unique, my vocabulary doesn't let me and the only word stuck in my head right now is to introduce myself as "Gubernatorial" (thanks Deadpool). With all that being out of the way, let me introduce myself.

My parents decided to name me Jann Dale Talplacido and I know my last name is something that would be butchered every time someone reads it, so please just call me JD. It is short and concise, easier for someone to remember unless you're a Starbucks barista who named me "Jaydee", which was interesting.

The thing that I can say about myself is that I am naturally curious, an overachiever and a good listener which is ironic considering I might need someone to repeat themselves several times and laugh awkwardly because I still couldn't hear them.

I have a background in video production, worked on high school news, and was in sets with different production crews from California. I have an interest in editing videos, playing games, and tinkering with different types of technology, from hardware to software.

Combining my natural curiosity and vivid whimsical imagination, I thought why not get a degree about Cyber security and make it a career, I heard they make a lot of money. Which brings me to my impression with IS101 and it was not something that I expected.

For starters, I like how the class is structured and the activities that need to be finished are all available for me to work on in advance. The thought of me just going to class and leaving was out the window as soon as I saw how much work that needs to be done in just one assignment. It may be overwhelming for some, including me, since not having to do school work for a couple of years then suddenly getting slammed by different courses is not fun; however, I don't take it as a bad thing because this it what real life is supposed to feel like. Patience and perseverance is the key to passing this class, at least that's how I look at it.

Since I am an overachiever, the skills that I have learned before going to college are all over the place and disorganized, which brings me to the point of why I chose 2.2.4 - Common Operating Systems as a skill that I have experienced with. Over the years, I was always curious about my Xbox, PSP, and phone on how they are running and how do they differ from each other in terms of their software. Slowly and surely, I researched them out of curiosity and saw the different types of operating systems. In present day, I have Windows 11, IOS, MacOS, and SteamOS (a variant of Linux). I may not know the deep ends of all the operating systems that I am using, but surely enough I know that they are useful in their own respective ways.

Windows 11 is the primary operating system that would be used in IS101 which I am familiar with.

MacOS is usually used for my classes and on the go since my laptop has it and would be another learning material for me.

Linux has different varieties and the one that I have which is called SteamOS is used mostly for games. It is a handheld but runs like a normal computer. I only used this to play games on the go.

Imagination and creativity are my strong suit when it comes to everything that I work on as I try to be more artistic in a sense. I can't draw, play an instrument nor write stories to save my life, but I do my best to make sure something that I would make would be memorable or have an impact. Judging from everything that I wrote, I think I explained enough about myself and personality.

Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you get $20 between your couch cushions.

  1. Natural curiosity and vivid whimsical imagination = a degree & career in cyber security? Excellent!

Windows 11 (Microsoft), iOS (Apple), macOS (Apple), and SteamOS (a variation of Linux/Open Source)? The only major OS/Company missing at the table is ChromeOS (Goolge) & Android (Goolge).

    Welcome to IS101-3003, Spring 2026, JD ^_^

Hmm... JD, "Gubernatorial" Deadpool, Desmond Doss, and me sitting around a circular table playing cards...

  2. JD, my name is Kevin Michael, as generic and bland as white bread, so mispronunciations aren’t my issue 😂 . I get being curious about operating systems, especially when you’ve got different ones. I’ve also had that moment when you realize class isn’t a quick in-and-out. Coming back after a break, the workload hits different. Patience is part of it. Also, I’m having difficulty being organized. There’s so much going on in life, and you try to stuff it in one day. It snowballs to the next, then you have a mountain of tasks, and you’re panicking at the end.

  3. Hi JD, video production sounds interesting! I've always been curious about how it works, and what the behind-the-scenes of works of art look like. I also like playing games, and I want to know what games you play. Maybe we can team up sometime :) As for your opinion about the class, I do agree that it might appear overwhelming if you look at the quantity of works. But I think as long as you read, listen, or simply practice the skills in earlier labs, it is very doable. I do think that you are right about perseverance and patience being important for this course though.

  4. JD, I like the way you introduced yourself and how your personality comes through in your writing. I also thought it was funny how you mentioned the Starbucks barista writing your name as “Jaydee”, that happens a lot. It’s great to see how your curiosity about technology has already helped you learn about different systems, and I’m sure that mindset will help you a lot as you continue studying cybersecurity. Even though you mentioned that writing isn’t one of your strengths, I actually really liked the way you presented your ideas and your personality through your post. You might want to give writing a try as a hobby sometime because you have a very engaging style.

  5. Your introduction was really fun to read because it felt more like a story than a typical self-introduction. The part about using the word “gubernatorial” and the Starbucks barista spelling your name “Jaydee” was pretty funny and I'm the living pruff of that as a Barista we write the name as however we want it. It made your post stand out from the usual introductions.

I also thought it was interesting that you have experience in video production and working with production crews. Those skills can be really useful, especially when working with technology and digital media. Your curiosity about how devices like the Xbox, PSP, and phones run different operating systems is something I can relate to because understanding how systems work is an important step toward learning more about technology and cybersecurity.

I agree with your point about the class requiring patience and perseverance. Coming back to school after some time away can definitely feel overwhelming, but having curiosity and motivation helps a lot. I wish you the best this semester and hope you continue developing your skills with technology and operating systems.

  13. Yo JD I think I'm proud to say "I'm something of a tinkerer myself" (Thanks Green Goblin) I just replaced the battery of a PS Vita and modded it so it has thousands of games. I first modded it without a PC and it was successful and the second time around just less than 4 days ago I incorporated my PC to help get over a hump and it paid off, games from PSP's, PS Vita's and even PS1 games all on my Vita for free! For 2.2.4 I have some experience with not only Windows, IOS but also Linux and Raspberry Pi, I got one for Christmas and its like it's own mini computer, I'm trying to turn it into a Cyberdeck as like a hacking/learning tool that'll hopefully help me gain experience in order to be an Analyst for Cyber Security, Keep working it'll pay off!
